15 May 2007 - Tour over and more good reviews

Hey there guys, Wow it's been a while, a little too long really but i've either been on the road or in the bed for the last three months or so. The tour was fantastic and I had a great time playing up and down the country. Thanks a million to all who came out. If you were at the last few gigs you'll know that i'm now playing with a percussionist. That would be Mark O Reilly. I've already started to put a new tour together for the two of us and a possible bass player, so keep an eye on the gig page. Anyway I played a gig about two weeks ago in Clondalkin and it was reviewed for Musicreview.com and below is what they said. I should have the album available online in the next few days so i'll fill you in then. See you soon.

Jimi Cullen live at Aras Chronain - Clondalkin, Dublin - May 7th 2007 by T . Halpin

Jimi Cullen is a solo artist form Gorey, Wexford with an intense album called "When the last leaf falls". Jimi came on stage and put a smile on the audiences face with his funny remarks and humoured suggestions, The first song done was "The Poverty song". Great structure in this tune with a really catchy tune it went down well and his lyrics were exellent too. Then he played "Small minded people living in small towns" a real laid back tune with a great chorus he sounded a bit like Cat Stevens with a groovy twist. Jimi played another song from his album "Hangover blues" this is were Jimi expressed his humour and showed how good of a songwriter he is, he then played one of his more serious songs called "On the street", this was a great change to the set, to humour the crowd and then play a song from the heart expressing his thoughts and views to the homeless, very moving and a fantastic chorus. Jimi created a great vibe on stage and could relate to the audience well with strong vocals and some great musical talent. Overall it was good show put on by Jimi on the night.

Star rank ***** 5 out of 6  Exellent

15 Feb. 2007 - Album Review in today's Evening Herald

Hey there. So the album got a pretty good review in Today's Evening Herald. A nice little boost and no small fete from an Independent artist. I seems like all the hard work is startin to pay off. Anyway here's the review written by Sarah Mc Quaid.

Jimi Cullen belongs to the Woody Guthrie school of songwriting. If he feels strongly about something, he writes a song about it, and as with Guthrie the results are mixed. When Cullen hit's the mark, he's hard to beat. The sardonic Small minded people living in small towns, a biting rocker about growing up in Cullen native Gorey, Co. Wexford is a case in point. So is On the street, one of the most effective songs about homelessness i've ever heard with it's bitter chorus that put's the burden of guilt on singer and listener in equal measures. Less successful is G&T On the rocks, It's what you might call a hate song about Bush and Blair and while most of us would probably agree with the sentiments expressed, a little subtlety wouldn't have gone amiss. It'll be interesting to see where Cullen goes from here.

10 feb. 2007 - Tour Diary online and sitting room gigs

Howdy Doody everyone. Just a few thing to fill you in on. First the Tour Diary is now online and the first post is up. Leave me comments about it in the Guestbook if you like. Second i'm offering to  do a few sitting room gigs for anybody who may be interested from any part of the country North, South, East or West. I will come to your house and do a gig for whoever you would like to invite, in your sitting room (or kitchen or bedroom or wherever). All I ask in return is a few beers, a bed and a bit of craic. Hey there fellow humans, Well as you can see from the gigs page i've been busy putting together a tour to support the new record. Still loads more dates to be added soon and some crackin ones lined up. I'll be making my first trips to a few places including Belfast. Still waiting for the delivery of the finished product and getting pretty excited about the coming months. I just want to get out there now and get back into the music. So keep checkin back to the site as there'll be loads going on in the next while. Also a new tour diary has been added to the site that will be started soon.

05 jan. 2007 - Sneak preview of album art

Hey Guys. Just thought I'd give you a sneak preview of the new Album art designed by Brian Kinsella. A very talented designer from Gorey. I couldn't be happier with the results. If you'd like to hear a little bit of the album you can hear most of the tracks at http://thejimicullenshow.bebo.com or www.myspace.com/jimcullen depending on what your preferred medium may be.

04 jan. 2007 - Long time no see

How's it going there everybody. I hope you all had a great christmas and a happy new year. Now your probably wondering where the hell I have been for the last six months or so. You probably noticed the website slowly look increasingly dated from a lack of updates. Well i've been holed up in the studio, in a self imposed exile slowly piecing together the album and i'm very happy to report that it's finally finished (about fucking time I can hear you all say) but it's still out a good ten years faster than Guns n Roses Chinese Democracy. Its called When the last leaf falls.  So my apoligies to anyone who's checked the site over the last few months. You must have thought I was missing in action or something and in a way I suppose I was really. But low and behold i'm back and mad to get back into the gigs. Below is the final running order for the record. I'll be adding news weekly from now on so keep checking back.

1. When the last leaf falls
2. The Poverty song
3. On the Street
